In our day-to-day life, we come across stories where children from well-to-do families are being arrested by police, with regards to their involvement with people with a criminal record. In today’s busy lifestyle, many parents don’t have time to keep a close watch on their children’s activities, especially when they attain teenage. It is the bad company of their children that may land them into trouble.
Last year, when Marathi film ‘Rege’, produced by Ravi Jadhav and directed by Abhijit Panse was released, it had created a buzz. Prior to that, not many were aware that the film would attain such big success, as there was no big hero or a heroine in it. The audience though liked the subject, which passed a timely social message. Aroh Velankar, who played the role of this medical student, played the central role of Anirudha Rege, son of a busy-practicing doctor in the town.
The film was appreciated because it was a thoughtful subject, exposing the police department and the desperation of some encounter specialists to increase their count of eliminating the criminals. It was for this reason that ‘Rege’ turned out to be different from the mainstream cinema.
Looking at the other characters played by versatile artistes like Mahesh Manjrekar, Pushkar Shrotri, Santosh Juvekar, Anant Jog and Pravin Tarde, all of them had striking similarities in terms of their mannerisms and style when compared to real life police personnel.
Zeetalkies spoke to Aroh, to know about his experience with this film. He said, “ For me, my selection in this film itself was a memorable moment. When I was selected for this role, I never knew who all were performing in this film. My very first scene in this film was shot at a remand home. It was the most awkward situation as I was asked to remove my clothes in that scene and made to squat. It was a real test for me. But I did it.”
When asked whether he had seen anyone of his age, choosing a wrong path and later realizing their mistake, he gave an example of a teenager from his neighborhood in Kothrud, Pune. “It so happened, that this boy got involved into betting and soon became a target of a gang, which started blackmailing him. Finally, he was rescued from this trouble, with the help of a local MLA.”
Aroh is also excited to see the TV premiere of his film on Zee talkies. ”It is a film for all. I am sure the home viewers would love to watch it.”
