Having heard about the Marathi film ‘Nagrik’ winning various awards, prior to its official release; everyone is talking about Sachin Khedekar’s role of a journalist in this film. Sachin himself is keen to know how his character in the film will be received by the audience.
Recently, when we met him, he said, “In my acting career spanning over 27 years, I have seen different types of journalists, as being an actor, I had to interact with them. However, when Jayprad Desai, director of ‘Nagrik’ narrated the story idea of his film, I had to look at this role seriously from a different point of view. I had to portray a journalist myself. To prepare myself for this role, I literally moved as a journalist and only then accepted this role. After two years of hard work backed by creativity, now the film is all set to release. So, I am eager to know how the audience would respond to it.”
When we asked him to describe his character, Sachin had a valid point to explain. He said, “Just imagine, if a journalist knows the truth behind a particular breaking news, is unable to get it published, because of the pressure from his own media house and also to protect vested interest of some outsiders. Through this character of Shyam Jagdale, I am portraying the dilemma of such a journalist, being trapped from both sides. Such type of Journalist’s role, I am playing for the first time and I am totally satisfied, playing this role.”
However, what Sachin Khedekar has gained through this role, was an obvious question. Reacting to this, Sachin focusing on his character said, “Now, I don’t feel like doing decorative roles, as I am not interested in increasing my count of films. Actually, after gaining so much of experience in this field, now it is time to give back something. And there cannot be a better medium than acting. Now, while accepting a role in a film or a drama, I ensure that whatever is still hidden within me, should come out through such a character I am required to play. In the film ‘Nagrik’ Shyam Jagdale has given me that required mental satisfaction. This character helped me to speak out, whatever I had to express from inside of my heart.”
