Varsha Usgaonkar started her film career with Marathi films such as ‘Tuzyavachun Karamena’ and ‘Gammat Jammat’ and had a very fascinating journey in the film industry. Even today, she has maintained her beauty, good looks and fitness. She talks about her rich experience of the industry, gained over the years.
This is what Varsha had to say about the changes which she has noticed in Marathi film industry, in the recent past; “Last year I worked in the films like ‘Duniyadari,’ ‘Thoda Tuza Thoda Maza,’ and ‘Cappuccino,’ and my experience was really good. The Marathi film industry has changed rapidly and it has become more professional and positive. The industry is now giving due importance to other aspects such as art-direction, costumes, editing to make the subject of the film more appealing. But what I feel is that Marathi Films should not be over-dependent on technology. The use of camera or computer graphics might be essential but it should not mar the essence of the film.”
Varsha further added, “A few years back, the film industry did not give much importance to films in the regional languages such as Marathi or Bengali. The Southern film industry always had its own presence felt. But now things have changed. Marathi Film Industry has now challenged the Hindi film industry and Marathi Films are now not looked down on.”
When asked whether she wishes to produce or direct a film, she replied, “Presently, the economics of Marathi films has totally changed. If a dedicated person takes responsibility, I would think of it. But I would prefer to direct a Marathi play.”
About her intention to write an autobiography based on her rich experience, she quickly reacted, “No, no, not at all! I have never thought of writing my autobiography, if I do so there is a possibility that there are some people whose sentiments might be hurt. I would like to read autobiographies of famous personalities in various fields. I am interested to know about their struggle and success.”
When Varsha was asked the secret of her fitness, she casually said, “Nothing special. Earlier my dancing for films and shows used to keep me fit. I like to eat all types of nutritious foods, including sea food. Now also I am choosy about food intake.
Finally, when asked about her favourite artistes in Marathi film industry, she said, “Among the present day actors, Swapnil Joshi and Sai Tamhankar are most praiseworthy.”
