After finishing her graduation and coming to Mumbai from Aurangabad, Mitalee Jagtap has worked very hard to find a suitable role to satisfy the actress within her. An actress with ample potential, Mitali initially joined a theatre group ‘Ashwatha,’ and performed many plays at Prithvi Theatre. Her talent was soon noticed by Hindi serial makers and that’s how Mitalee found her regular earnings though TV soaps like ‘Kkusum’ and others. Mitali did make her debut in Marathi with ‘Raju,’ for which she received the State award.
Later, Mitalee also performed in popular Marathi serials like Vadalvaat, Pimpalpaan and others. After her marriage to Cameraman Sandeep Varadkar, Mitali took a break for a while, only to make a grand comeback with ‘Baboo Band Bajaa,’ for which she won National Award for Best Actress. In the meantime, she also performed in Marathi TV serial ‘Asava Sundar Swapnancha Bangala’ and also had a few scenes in Prakash Jha’s film ‘Satyagrah.’ Now her next Marathi film ‘Manaatlya Unhaat,’ is due for release, where she is playing the lead role.
Zee Talkies spoke to Mitalee Jagtap after the music release of this film, where she shared the dais with Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, who praised the subject of this film.
Q: How do you feel, with Anil Kapoor coming personally to release the music of your film?
A: Very nice! Moreover, he also appreciated the subjects dealt by this film.
Q: You have won the biggest award, the National Award, for the Best Actress for the film ‘Baboo Band Bajaa’. Was that the most memorable moment, after hearing that news?
A: Yes, I was literally thrilled that time. My hard work over the years and the struggle I had undergone after coming to Mumbai paid big dividends. I just cannot describe that moment in words.
Q: Any other memorable moments, after going through that period of struggle?
A: Yes, I had a very limited role in Prakash Jha’s film ‘Satyagraha’, where I had an opportunity to work with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. A very important scene was being shot on me and it went very well. Mr. Bachchan, who was there, was the first person to clap and appreciate it after the scene was over. This was also another memorable moment in my life.
Q: What’s your role in Manatlya Unhaat? How challenging is it?
A: After ‘Baboo Band Bajaa,’ this is my next film in the lead role. It is more challenging in the sense that I am playing a life period ranging from 18- 60 years in age.
Q: Your parents supported you to become an actress. Today, you have a little daughter. What are your dreams about her?
A: I think today’s parents are also more liberal in terms of understanding the interests of their children. Today, my daughter is young. But when the time comes, I will certainly encourage her to do the things of her interest.
