Produced & Creatively designed by Alok Shrivastav and directed Girish Vasaikar, new Marathi Film ‘Miss Match’ is all about arranged love marriage. The film revolves around USA returned young girl Priya (Mrinmai Kolwalkar), who is doing her Masters in Pune, her original birthplace. She lives with her cousin Meera (Ananya), who also takes good care of her. Priya’s father (Uday Tikekar) is a big businessman in USA and wants his daughter to marry a boy from a good family. He arranges many proposals for Priya and gives her ultimatum either to find a boy of her choice; or to marry a boy arranged by him within six months.
Priya doesn’t believe in arranged marriage. She has many friends in college; but none of them is the boy of her choice for marriage. One day, her friend Omkar proposes to her. To avoid him, Priya tells him that she is already in love with a boy, who is settled in USA. As per Meera’s advice she thinks of her ‘would be husband’ as per the theory of Ronda Byrne’s book ‘The Secret’. So she imagines a young handsome boy with the name ‘Raj’, with all those qualities of a good husband.
One fine day, Raj (Bhushan Pradhan) actually arrives in her life and poses as her boyfriend coming from USA, in front of Priya’s friends. Priya is in a dilemma. She doesn’t know how to react. So, with the help of Meera, she tries to find out the real identity of Raj. But, she doesn’t succeed much. Finally, she seeks help of her father. Needless to say that all is well at the end.
The story of this film is very limited; but through expanded screenplay, it drags on little before interval, wasting a lot of time in Priya and Meera’s conversation, the birthday celebration of college friend Omkar and later Raj and Priya spending more than required time in jungles. All the main happenings of this film take place in post interval session, with few twists and turns in the screenplay.
Director Girish Vasaikar has used his experience of TV serial direction, to present those twists in the screenplay well. Alok Shrivastav’s creativity in selection of right locations, his offering liberties to the costume and art designers; can be noticed through many scenes. Many popular singers like Asha Bhosale, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Avadhoot Gupte and Bela Shende have rendered their voices for songs in this film; but the music is not so impressive as expected. Cinematographer Bharni Kanan has however captured the song sequences skillfully, through his camera.
In the role of Raj , Bhushan Pradhan has done a good job. Through his quick changing expressions, he has managed to hold the suspense about his real identity till the end. Newcomer Mrinmayi Kolwalkar is impressive on her debut. She looks good in all types of dresses she has tried in this film. Uday Tikekar is at his best and suits well in that role of a rich NRI businessman. Ananya and others playing Priya’s friends are fine; but, it was surprising to find Bhau Kadam being wasted in that ordinary junior artiste role, with just two scenes. ‘Miss Match’ is targeted at today’s youngsters, with their different outlook towards marriage.
