Jayaprad Desai’s 'Nagrik' tells the tale of investigative journalist Shyam Jagadale (Sachin Khedekar), representing ‘Aaj Mumbai,’ a popular Mumbai daily. Things start to change when Jagdale’s editor pressurizes him for not revealing the truth in his report about Vikas Patil (Milind Soman), an ambitious politician. Shyam resigns and starts writing his own blog, naming it ‘Nagrik.’
When Patil plans a communal riot for his personal gain, he arranges a meeting with Nana Chitnis (Dr. Shreeram Lagoo), a veteran in the realm of politics. But Nana refuses his offer and informs Shyam, leading Nagrik’s owner to expose Patil’s diabolical plans. The film builds a screenplay that holds you in a vice-grip, revealing a cascade of political games played by those in power.
The technical aspects of the film are simply breathtaking. Mahesh Keluskar’s excellent script, the editing by Gorakshanath Khade, sound design by Oscar winning sound-mixer Resul Pookutty, and numerous other vital contributions have come together to offer a gripping, comprehensive viewing experience.
